SEJATI Environmental Trading Company, Inc. was founded in 1990 by environmental and business leaders as a way for indigenous cultures around the world to sell environmentally sustainable, socially acceptable handcrafted art, crafts and artifacts. Our recent expansion into Thailand and Vietnam has increased our product offering by over 100 NEW ITEMS. Our products are bought directly from artisans. SEJATI (pronounced Sa JA tee) means "authentic" or "original" in the Malay language. For eleven years SEJATI has provided a variety of fine gifts, decorative accessories, furniture, collector items and just really cool stuff to thousands of satisfied retail gift shops, museum stores, catalogue companies, art galleries and amusement parks throughout the Americas, Caribbean and Europe. All products offered by SEJATI utilize only those wood species that are either non-threatened, highly renewable or plantation grown. In addition each item is individually hand crafted by village artisans-no factories are employed. FoundationOn September 7, 2000 one of SEJATI'S founders, Lesley Scheele, passed away. Her professional life was devoted to focusing attention on declining dolphin populations' worldwide and SEJATI. A graduate of New College in Sarasota, FL, Lesley's insights, humor and business acumen will be sorely missed. SEJATI'S Board of Directors recently voted to provide the necessary funds to establish a not-for-profit foundation in her name. For further information you may contact us.
