Batak
The Batak people of Northern Sumatra are the only known cannibalistic tribe to have a written language. Residing on an island in the middle of a crater lake-not the easiest place to reach - these fierce people were isolated and insulated.
Traders and later missionaries attempted to convert the Batak to Islam and Christianity. Rather then abandoning their belief system these new ideas were integrated with the old. The Sanskrit like writing of the ancient language is apparent on most of the pieces offered by SEJATI.
